Collected at Goo-Obo Falls, Papua New Guinea. Goo obo gudgeon, Probably Mogurnda nesolepis , although the experts have not concurred on this one. Goo-obo the name given by locals of Paro Village Papua New Guinea for the beautiful water falls where it was collected For more photos check out (http://www.australianrainbowfish.com/fish_ng/new_guinea_fishes_menu.htm) then select other New Guinea Fish. Unlike other Mogurnda, this fish stays small, and is a pussycat. Jumbo at 3” and. will breed 1.1/4”. With a personality and mannerisms like a cross between a desert goby, a peacock gudgeon, I believe this new fish is destine to be a big hit. It's one of those great finds, that finds its way into the hearts and tanks of a lot of aguarist for a long time to come. With selective breeding, this fish has shown an incredible ability to improve color in just three generations. Some of the best individuals would give the best killifish a run for thier money. The spawns are also producing a wide spectrum of colors and patterns. In the right hands, who knows what can be done to improve the strain? Your going to have fun working with this fish. The males, like little dragons defend their cave and surrounding territory. Several males can be kept in the same tank with only the occasional ruff stuff. Females and other fish, like the Pagwi rainbows they were found with, are not harassed and have free rein of the tank. When feeding time occurres all heck can break loose when male come together to feed assume an aggressive posture by waving bodies and flashing colors. Females fill up with eggs about once a month and will seek out the denominate males who are defending caves to take care of her 200 or so eggs she sticks to the roof of the cave. After spawning the female sent is out to regain her plump figure and not to return for another month. One male can breed twice a month. The male guards the eggs for 8 to 10 days. After spending the first day or so on the floor of the cave the fry are now ready to eat live baby brine shrimp. Weather in a plated tank or bare bottom breeding tank this fish makes an impressive display with always something going on to watch. With males and females looking almost like different fish, the sexual dimorphism in this species is incredible. I still can't make up my mind, which one I like better. The females are getting about 2.5 inch and range in color from yellow to a deep orange/red stomachs. Some females have a bared pattern and some have a smooth pattern. The somewhat larger males are green or orange with red spots on the body and fins trimmed in fancy yellow. I will not be selling outside the auction.
