Chilatherina bleheri 6 pack

$38.00

Thanks to Gary Lang and his 6.3 mpixel SLR digital that enabled him to capture this breath taking image of a male Chilatherina bleheri. No adjustments were made on this image what so ever. The photo is how the fish appeared at the time the digital image was taken. This dominant male is captured at the moment in time when he is at his very best. He is either fending off a rival male or is about to woo a female into the plants for breeding. The strip you see on his head is pulsating on and off to enhance his appearance. Like the peacock, male rainbows are judged to be fit for breeding by their colorful plumage. The one thing I hope you all can get from this photo is that most male rainbows at one time or another will look this good. Chilatherina bleheri is a very handsome rainbowfish. Males display a brilliant yellow-orange stripe on the middle of the forehead during spawning. From lake Holmes and feeder streams in the Mamberamo region of Irian Jaya. Specimens of this species were initially collected in 1982. In 1985 they were described by Gerald R. Allen as a new species and named in for the well-known fish collector, Heiko Bleher.
