| Origin |
Borneo, Sumatra, Thailand. |
| Social Behaviour |
Intolerant and aggressive. |
| Remarks |
They may damage or attack plants in pursuit of
snails, which they relish. Feed live food such as molluscs, snails and small
fish. Feeding lettuce may reduce plant damage. The fish prefers fresh, not
brackish water, a sandy substrate and plenty of rocky retreats. Formally
known as Tetraodon steindachneri |

I have heard about how
aggressive these fish are, but mine has yet to do anything more than rear up
& show other fish his belly. It is a nice fat belly, so maybe they get the
hint. However, I have had to move out 3 very small gold barbs that I had in
the same tank, because the puffer let them pick on him. Also, although I do
offer my puffer ghost shrimp & small snails from time to time, its main
dietary staple is shrimp pellets. Really loves them. Katie York, Texas
USA. |
